How to Elope in Arizona

Planning to elope in Arizona? You’ve come to the right place! Grab your partner’s hand, and let’s embark on an elopement adventure like no other! But wait, where do you even start? Don’t worry! We’ve got your back! Here’s your step-by-step guide to planning the ultimate Arizona elopement!

Arizona Elopement Locations

First things first, location is one of the most crucial decisions to make! Where are you going to exchange your vows? Arizona is a treasure trove of jaw-dropping scenery, so let’s look at some of the many options!

Grand Canyon

Who needs a chapel when you’ve got one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World as your backdrop? The Grand Canyon offers awe-inspiring vistas that will leave you breathless through and through, but we need to narrow it down somehow. The Canyon has two main sections – the North and the South rim.

Two of the many places worth considering for your Arizona elopement in the North Rim are Cape Royal Amphitheater and Point Imperial Viewpoint. One thing to keep in mind is that the North Rim is closed during winter. The South Rim has many points of interest, like the Lipan, Moran, Grandeur, and Pima Point, which are perfect for intimate ceremonies!

Horseshoe Bend

Imagine saying “forever” while overlooking the dramatic curve of the Colorado River. Horseshoe Bend‘s panoramic views are simply unbeatable! To get to this scenic overlook, you’ll need to hike a little bit, but it’s very much worth every step!

Sedona

Sedona is one of our favorite spots for Arizona elopements for a good reason!

There are many amazing views to choose from, and they each come with their own adventure! You could take an amazing hike (bonus: the farther you go, the fewer tourists you’ll have to see!) or even a fun Jeep ride to find the best location for your elopement! If you’d like to learn more about Jeep adventure elopement planning, you can check out our guide here!

Cathedral Rock and Devil’s Bridge are must-see spots, but we highly encourage you to take a step off the beaten path to escape the crowds and see that there’s magic to be found around every corner!

We couldn’t possibly go through all of the stunning locations in a single blog because there are just SO MANY to choose from. However, if you’d like some help deciding on a spot for your Arizona elopement, feel free to reach out, we’d love to brainstorm together!

Permits and Permissions Needed to Elope in Arizona

Before you start practicing your vows, be sure to check the permit requirements for your chosen location. Arizona’s natural wonders are well-loved, and a permit ensures you have the place to yourselves!

For example, you’ll need a permit for the Grand Canyon, and for the Horseshoe Bend, you’ll need to check with the Glen Canyon Recreation Area. The permits are something we are happy to help you with as your Arizona elopement photographer & videographer duo, so that’s a great bonus to all our clients!

Best Time to Elope in Arizona

Now, let’s chat about the best times to elope in Arizona! Here’s a breakdown of the seasons:

Spring (March-May): Spring is the perfect time for a wildflower-studded ceremony! As a bonus, the tourism season is just beginning, so there’s a higher chance you will have your dream location for yourself!

Summer (June – August): Summer is the peak tourist time, and it also gets really hot! So we highly advise you to stay away and choose one of the cooler months!

Fall (September – November): The summer heat begins to cool off, and the landscapes are getting colored with warm, golden hues, giving you gorgeous backdrops for your photos!

Winter (December – February): If you’re dreaming of a cozy, intimate elopement, winter might just be your perfect match. While the days are cooler, the red rocks and evergreen foliage provide a stunning contrast. If you are dreaming of eloping in one of Arizona’s more popular spots, eloping in winter will allow you to experience fewer crowds.

Choosing Your Arizona Elopement Outfits

Choosing your elopement attire isn’t just about looking fabulous (although that’s a given!), it’s about feeling comfortable, confident, and in sync with the surroundings. Boho chic style would fit beautifully with Arizona backdrops. Think lace, chiffon, or silk for that ethereal, free-spirited vibe.

Comfortable footwear is a must for your adventure elopements! If you’re planning a hike to your spot, consider sturdy yet stylish boots. You can always switch into heels or sandals for the ceremony!

If you’re planning to elope in Arizona, we also recommend bringing some layers because even in warmer months, desert nights can get chilly. A light shawl or jacket can add a touch of elegance and keep you cozy.
