Please introduce yourself.

Hi I’m Lindsey Keeley! I own and run Skinny Dip Candle from my home in Missoula, Montana. I was born and raised here and, while I did spend some time in both Hamilton and Bozeman, I am so happy to have made it back.

How did you get into candle-making?

I got into essential oils and natural skincare before I found Skinny Dip Candles. I find the properties of various oils and butters fascinating and if I can use something from the earth to help someone feel better in any way then I’m all in! I didn’t invent Skinny Dip Candles to be honest. They were first created in 2004 by Karen Porter. I first heard of them when she was selling the company around 2012. At the time, I was still in college and really couldn’t afford to buy it. However, over the years, I would find myself thinking about it. What new scents could I create? What other products could I invent along the same lines? What would it be like to run my own company? Well, it so happened the opportunity arose again when the most recent owner, Patty Hagglund, decided to retire. I had to make it happen! I had gained so much more life experience and knowledge not only in natural skincare and aromatherapy but in marketing/photography, packing and shipping and even in event planning, which has come in handy. Even better? My husband and I were already working toward moving back to Missoula at the time. It was truly serendipity!

What is your purpose behind Skinny Dip Candles?

I want Skinny Dip Candles to give people the same feelings that your best friend does. You feel comfortable to be your perfect, weird self. You feel refreshed after spending time with them. And perhaps they’ll even help you feel sexy! The wonderful thing about candles is the scent factor. Scents are the most powerful receptor for memory. As soon as you smell one it can bring you to an exact moment or a feeling. By adding touch with Skinny Dip Candles, you can not only recall the memory, but carry it with you and share it with others. I hope people use their candles for self care as well as intimacy so they can come back to those feelings of confidence any time.

What do you find most rewarding about your work?

The most rewarding thing about sharing my candles is hearing how they have helped people! From healing dry skin to becoming an integral part of someone’s self care routine to giving them as a sexy gift for a post-menopausal wife, I love when people have enjoyed them so much that they reach out just to tell me.

I also love finding and testing fragrances and mixing essential oils 😉

What do you find most challenging?

The most challenging thing is being a solo-preneur. I do it all! Mix the wax, pour the candles, label and ship the candles, take the photos, do the marketing and social media, go to events, reach out to potential wholesalers. It’s a lot and I also have a second job keeping me busy as well. It certainly does make any win a big win though!

What’s coming up for Skinny Dip Candle?

I am so so excited to be launching my fall line on September 1st! I’m bringing back some of the old favorites like Hey Pumpkin and Orange Spice, but I also found two new scents that I’m obsessed with. I’ve been carrying one around as a mini in my purse (Wildest Dreams) since I found it just so I can smell it or put it on sometimes. The other one, Moonlit Magic, was specifically chosen as an earthy, witchy scent and it’s just so perfect and unique as a fall scent.

I’m also planning to revamp our Sensual Edible line to include some new, exciting flavor-scents! That’s coming up in the winter.
